a. What benefits do you get when using different search facilities to search for resources related to your topic?

Using various search facilities to conduct research enables you to gather information in a comprehensive way, enabling the possibility of the discovery of findings that might go unnoticed if only one type of search tool is used. This is so because different search facilities operate on varying mechanisms, and thus produce varying results.

b. How do you feel about using site feeds in your blog?

I feel that it is redundant without the use of a feed reader software. Having to type in the URL of the feed is as good as typing in the URL of the blog itself. In fact, the blog's URL is shorter the the feed URL.

c. What do you like best about collaborating on Wiki with other students who share similar research topic as you?

It serves to broaden my perspectives on a topic through reviewing the perspectives of others and progressive discussion. It may point out to me issues that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Requirements include a simple introduction, so here we go:

My name is Elias Soh and I'm currently taking a course in Communications and Media Management. As a rundown of hobbies is usually the norm for an introduction to a new class, I will fail in this aspect. However, I do have activities that I enjoy but do not pursue in regularity to qualify it as a 'hobby', due to a slew of reasons, of which include laziness and time limitations.

I enjoy watching movies (especially those written and/or directed by Quentin Tarantino), listening to music (I've been introduced to a producer from the UK that works under the moniker of 'Burial'), reading books (currently reading Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman), and I enjoy watching football.

When time permits, I also engage in music production and club DJing. I have played in clubs such as Night & Day and Home Club alongside DJ Kiat, who has been a drum 'n' bass DJ for more than a decade. Additionally, I am involved in his record label, which has garnered considerable press attention from publications such as Drum n Bass Arena UK and Knowledge Magazine.

I also try to set aside time in the week to catch up on a selection of TV shows, which include Californication, Entourage and Bored to Death. Said shows are produced and distributed by the HBO network in America. As HBO is a cable TV channel, that grants writers the license to not hold back on various aspects of real life most people and authorities would deem illicit. These aspects include the use of Marijuana, brief nudity and coarse language.

I am at an age where taboo provides a greater sense of entertainment. I, however, do not partake in any illicit activities in real life, barring the occasional jay-walk. Ahem.

My mother is in the field of purchasing, and is currently employed by Jacobs Engineering as a procurement manager. My father is a real estate agent, and is a slave to volatile and fluctuating markets. They are both in their 50s, so this points to my future responsibility of caring for my 11 year old brother following their retirement.

I intend to pursue a degree in a local university following my completion of National Service, and enter a profession in the media in no particular locale. I will go where my inclinations (and bank account balance) takes me.
